LYRICS

NORTH STAR ROAD
The World Through (Peter Mark Kucparic)

I've heard music on the lonely city sidewalks
I've seen smiles on the faces of the poor
I've seen everything I need to see
And a little bit more

I saw a hungry man cryin in the shelter
Strummin on an old guitar
I've seen people in pain, people insane
And people who are who they are

I'll show you the world through my eyes
If you wanna know how I feel
I tell you, everybody loves the rain
And sadness isn't real

I've seen the beauty mother earth has to offer
In the waves of the lakes to the east
I've seen prairie seas of canola fields
And a garden harvest feast

Her blood runs through the rivers
In the mountains lay her heart
The sunshine is her happiness
And the living are her art

I'll show you the world through my eyes
If you wanna know how I feel
I tell you, everybody loves the rain
And sadness isn't real

There's love everywhere if you're lookin
Just give it a chance to shine
And I know you've got your problems
Just like I've got mine

But love is stronger than a heartache
And maybe heartache's all you've known
But take me for my word, and fly like a bird
To places wings of wax have never flown

I'll show you the world through my eyes
If you wanna know how I feel
I tell you, everybody loves the rain
And sadness isn't real

Westpost (Steve Schellenberg)

I went to visit my friends in the woods,
They ain't got no money but they sure look good,
Seems like they belong there.
I want to make the country my home,
Get a little piece of land I can call my own,
And maybe even make a life there.
This is the place where the hippies all came,
And the ones who remain, their kids have all grown up
And moved back into town.
But this is the life, and this is the season,
And now I've found you, and I have a reason
For laying mine down.

We walked among the apple trees,
It's wintertime, not too much to see
Cuz everything is asleep.
You know this land ain't good for much,
Just growin' rocks and trees and such,
And maybe skinny cows and sheep.
Sometimes when I look deep in your eyes
And I know it ain't wise, but I just wanna hold on
And never let go of you.
But I know love must take its time, so I write this rhyme,
And I say, this one's for you.

I went to visit my good friend Will,
He lives in the woods on the side of a hill
In a little solar shack.
He had enough of the world and its ways,
So he build him a place, and now that's where he stays,
And he ain't lookin' back.
Oh, he lives his days in silence and peace,
And he prays for the world, and he prays for me,
And I appreciate his concern.
Cuz when I look around at the things goin' down,
Well it makes me profoundly glad to know
There's people like him in the world.

Then came the time for takin' my chance,
Flying my life by the seat of my pants
On a wing and a prayer.
So I walked away from my security,
And I dove right into the deep blue sea,
And I found you there.
Now if there's no God, then it doesn't make sense,
But I know that He's there, and He's at our defence
Like He's been there all along.
So I can take my guitar in my hand,
Sing you a song about back to the land,
Which is where we belong.

Be Here Now (Maria Mango)

Why spend our time talkin about what used to be?
What's passed is in the past, the future is a mystery
That's why now is called the present, it's a gift for us to share
You don't have to look too hard, it's always right there

I've got some stories of where I've been
Got some ideas where I'll go to next
But really I'm just tryin to be here now in the meantime
With no plans and no regrets

Sometimes it seems that people talk just to take up time
Always in a hurry, yet always in a line
Seems to me some people, they're just gettin nowhere fast
They've got one foot in the future, and one foot in the past

I've got some stories of where I've been
Got some ideas where I'll go to next
But really I'm just tryin to be here now in the meantime
With no plans and no regrets

Nobody is just where they are, they're always somewhere else
Whether driving in their cars or talkin on their cells
Never in the moment, always worryin' 'bout the next,
Then they start to wonder, 'Why do I feel so stressed?'

I've got some stories of where I've been
Got some ideas where I'll go to next
But really I'm just tryin to be here now in the meantime
With no plans and no regrets

So I suggest you take the time to go hug a tree
Look people in the eye, remember to breathe
Meditating's not something you do, it's a way to live
When everyone's just take, take, take, remember to give

I've got some stories of where I've been
Got some ideas where I'll go to next
But really I'm just tryin to be here now in the meantime
With no plans and no regrets

Grandma (Maria Mango)

My grandmother is a Gemini, just like me
And when we get together, we can talk incessantly
I love when she tells me stories 'bout the way things used to be
And I love the way she listens, she loves me cuz I'm me

Grandma means unconditional love
My grandma prays for angels to watch us from above

My grandmother can do anything, seems like she has done it all
She raised nine kids in a little house, with paper-thin walls
And it wasn't always easy, but she kept on carryin' on
And somehow she kept her sanity, my grandma, she is strong

Grandma means unconditional love
My grandma prays for angels to watch us from above

My grandmother is baker, she makes the best cookies, cakes, and pies
She can fix such a fillin' dinner, I used to love to spend the night
And she keeps a beautiful garden, and she makes the sweetest jam
It'll melt in your mouth on her homemade bread, I'm my grandma's biggest fan.

Grandma means unconditional love
My grandma prays for angels to watch us from above

My grandmother is a tailor, she keeps her family well-dressed
She knits the loveliest sweaters to keep us warm when we leave the nest
And she's always makin' something, she's never just sittin' there
I'm kinda like that with the songs I sing, we both do it cuz we care

Grandma means unconditional love
My grandma prays for angels to watch us from above

No Such Thing As Goodbye (Maria Mango)

It's a story, as old as time itself
You don't know me, but I know just how you felt
When he said goodbye, when she said goodbye,
I too have cried... It's sad to say goodbye

Love is stronger than death and misery
While that may be true, why are so many still suffering?
When will we, ever be free? When will we see?
When he says goodbye, when she says goodbye,
Even when we die... It's all a lie,
There's no such thing as goodbye,
I too have cried... It's sad to say goodbye.

In Hawaii there's no goodbyes or hellos
They just smile and say aloha
And i think it goes to show ya
How they know, nobody ever really goes
The air we share is the wind that blows
And I think they know, it's all in the flow
There's no goodbyes or hellos

It's hard to think, I'm never ever ever gonna see you again
And my heart just breaks, I feel like I've lost my best friend
Oh how I wish you hadn't wanted to leave so soon
Now I'm cast adrift, bayin' and howlin' at the moon
If we're all one, then how come I feel so alone?
Where is the sun, and how come no one ever phones?
Yeah I know the pain, of incessant rain
And I will cry 'til these teardrops run dry
I've got the ocean in my eyes, I too have cried
I cannot hide from these feelings I have deep inside
Bein' human ain't a crime, we'll find out in time
The how and the why beyond hello and goodbye...

Life Is So Good (Maria Mango)

Life is so good, I do believe it's gettin' better every day,
There's no need to worry, no, you just live it day by day!
Life is so good, I do believe it's getting better every day,
It's gettin' better in every way!

When you're feelin' down, there ain't nowhere to go but up!
Is it half-full or half-empty, what do you see in your cup?
I don't have much, but I am grateful for what I've got,
And that's how a little can be a lot!

Life is so good, I do believe it's gettin' better every day,
There's no need to worry, no, you just live it day by day!
Life is so good, I do believe it's getting better every day,
It's gettin' better in every way!

There's so much we can do to make this world a better place,
Slow down and smell the roses now, you know this ain't no race!
You don't need a lot of money to do something nice,
The best kind of presence don't come with a price!

Life is so good, I do believe it's gettin' better every day,
There's no need to worry, no, you just live it day by day!
Life is so good, I do believe it's getting better every day,
It's gettin' better in every way!

It really is quite simple, easy to understand,
If you take a leap of faith, the Lord will catch you where you land!
So do what you love, and love what you do,
Soon you will be lovin' life too!

Life is so good, I do believe it's gettin' better every day,
There's no need to worry, no, you just live it day by day!
Life is so good, I do believe it's getting better every day,
It's gettin' better in every way!

No One Else For Me But You (Maria Mango)

I am so happy to see you my friend,
I hope we never go this long without talkin' again
Oh, are you sometimes lonely even though you're not alone?
I wonder if you'd call me, if I had a phone?
I've been followin' my heart, just like you told me to do,
It took me all around the world, then brought me back home to you

And I've been travellin' a while now, all by myself
I love like it's goin' out of style, but there is no one else for me but you

What's this you say, you've found another girl?
The tears I wanna cry could fill the oceans of the world
But the sun is still shining, there's no sign of rain
It must just be the timing, you can't put life in a frame
I want you to be happy, whatever makes you smile
Even if it's not me, or was just for a while

And I've been travellin' a while now, all by myself
I love like it's goin' out of style, but there is no one else for me but you

Whatever happened to happily ever after?
How come tears always seem to follow laughter?
I told you I would love you forever and a day
Even if we're not together, even though you went away
And it's easy to forgive, it's harder to forget
It's like cryin' over spilt milk, the floor will still be wet

And I've been travellin' a while now, all by myself
I love like it's goin' out of style, but there is no one else for me but you

Now I've had other lovers, each in their own way true
But when it comes right down to it, no one can replace you
But you are just a memory frozen in time
You no longer love me, you're no longer mine
Oh, love is an ocean, it ebbs and it flows
Love is an emotion, it comes and it goes

And I've been travellin' a while now, all by myself
I love like it's goin' out of style, but there is no one else for me but you

So soon I will be goin' but we've still got today
We've got so much catchin' up to do, there's so much to say
But I'd rather you sing me the songs you have learned
And I'll put on a harmony and the bridge will be unburned
You know I wish you all the best as you travel far and wide
And if one day you need me babe, I'll be right by your side

Cuz I've been travellin' a while now, all by myself
I love like it's goin' out of style, but there is no one else for me but you

Love Unrequited (Maria Mango)

Coulda, woulda. shoulda, they're all words of the past
Our time together it just flew by so fast
But I would never go back and undo what's been done
I'm sad to see you leaving, but who knows what has begun?

Feels like love unrequited, but not quite
Nobody's wrong, nobody's right

It's not that we don't know each other, we know all too well
Keepers of secrets we've promised not to tell
What will we remember through eternity?
What remains of you and I, tell me what is left of we?

Feels like love unrequited, but not quite
Your spirit is with me like light

Babe, it feels strange actin' like we are just friends
I haven't learned to hide the hope that maybe we could try again
But even if that happens, it won't be for some time
So I'll make love with melody, I'll talk to you in rhyme

Feels like love unrequited, but not quite
Our bodies are just puppets, our souls are kites

I never owned you, and you never owned me
Together, alone, in love and free
So many ways that we helped each other grow
I love you more than you'll ever know

Feels like love unrequited, but not quite
We'll both sleep alone tonight

This Train ("Train Tracks" by Jason Webley)

I know that you've been feelin' tired
I hear your voice is wearin' thin
I know you've slept so many places in the past few days
You can't remember just what bed you're in
There's something familiar about this room
Everywhere you go, it's just like you've been there before
But if you want to step outside this body and this world
You're going to have to go through a different kind of door

And this train only runs in summertime
The children have been let out of school
You haven't packed, the bottoms of your shoes are cracked
But your passport has been kissed by the holy fool

He's smiling, cross-eyed, barefoot, dressed in rags
Bent down, talkin' to the crows
He's got no words to tell ya
Just some magic beans to sell ya
Plant them and in time the tracks will grow

And this train only runs in summertime
The parents and lyin' beside the pool
You haven't packed, the bottoms of your shoes are cracked
But your passport has been kissed by the holy fool

Are you looking for salvation?
Are you looking for answers, for Jesus, for dancers
To serve you some warmth on cold nights?
Are you looking for that thing that looks out through your eyes?
For something that won't leave your side?
On this lonely planet, where everything's waving goodbye...

I know that you've been workin' hard
You want the whole world to see how brightly you can glow
But if you just trade everything, for that small bag of dried up beans
It's only time until that whistle blows

And this train only runs in summertime
The children have been let out of school
You haven't packed, the bottoms of your shoes are cracked
But your passport has been kissed by the holy fool
And this train only runs in summertime
The only contradiction is the rule
It's goin' past, but it's not movin' too fast
And an open empty boxcar stares at you...

Broken Heart (Maria Mango)

Let it go, let it go, let the tears flow
Watch 'em ebb and flow like the ocean
Nobody knows how the winds of change will blow
Causin' highs and lows of emotion

You don't heal a broken heart
By pretending it ain't broken

The lonliness and pain are hurtin' my brain
And I'm feelin' quite insane at the moment
And there ain't no shame in sharin' your pain
There's no one to blame and you know it

You don't heal a broken heart
By pretending it ain't broken

Some poeple live for love, some people die for love
A self-sacrificing crime of passion
Don't push and shove, don't lie for love
This world needs more compassion

You don't heal a broken heart
By pretending it ain't broken

The people they cry for a friend who has died
Wonderin' why weren't we there for each other?
Pass the rye and heave a sigh
As we sing all night for my brother

You don't heal a broken heart
By pretending it ain't broken

A mother's woe cannot be told
The babe she used to hold is gone forever
And his father now knows a new kind of low
Wonders how he can go on, maybe never

You don't heal a broken heart
By pretending it ain't broken

This is the darkest night with no end in sight
How do we know there will be light in the morning?
The fire burns bright as the phoenix takes flight
And I feel this might be a warning

You don't heal a broken heart
By pretending it ain't broken

The way we feel is very real
Only time will heal our sorrow
You are at the wheel of karma's automobile
Steering your way to tomorrow

And you don't heal a broken heart
By pretending it ain't broken

We need each other now, need the sun to part the clouds
Need to play our music loud so he can hear it
And if each of us vows to love more now
When death comes around, we won't fear it

And you don't heal a broken heart
By pretending it ain't broken

The Sunless City (Maria Mango)

I used to wonder when I'd get out of this town
I'd hear rollin' thunder, and wish I could be that sound
I'd ask where it went when an echo ends?
And I swore I'd go searchin' as I said goodbye to my friends

I said so long, farewell, goodbye, it's been good to know ya
But I've gotta move on, if I wanna grow, ya
I can't live in a town where they frown each time I make a sound
I can't live in a town where dreams get lost underground

So one misty morning I left, I was just gone
And the town stayed a-snoring, and I was gone long
It's funny to come back and see how much things have changed
It's even funnier to come back and see how much stays the same

Yeah, comin' back home these days is like travellin' through time
It all feels like memory lane, all made up in my mind
It's hard to believe that I'm here, that it's all really real
I go out with a friend for a beer, let her know how I feel

She never went anywhere, she never went far
And she told me she doesn't care, with half a heart
She's tryin' to save up some money, so she can leave
And go somewhere it is sunny, where the grass stays green

I said good luck darling, may your wishes come true
And I brought my guitar in, and I played her a tune
I sang songs of freedom that brought tears to her eyes
And I dreamed she spread her wings, and took to the sky

How To Feed Two Birds With One Crumb (Maria Mango)

How do you make it through?
Do you provide for yourself
Or does Jah provide for you?
You have never been alone
And wherever you go
Jah will follow

And if you're cooking for two
You can feed one more
And if you're cooking for three
There's enough for four
If you've got a room
Then you have got a floor
Oh the more you give, the more you live
If we all share, we'll all have more

Don't you see how blessed you are?
if you've got food to eat, let alone a car
You have more than you need
Yet you think that you're still far
Oh, why ya tryin' to get higher?
Just be happy where you are

I have seen miracles when people share
Anything is possible when we all care
If you ever need me
You know that I'll be there
It's not about what color you are
It's not about the clothes you wear

So do not fear the recession at hand,
Divided we fall but united we stand!
We've gotta love each other
And we've gotta love this land
It's time to work together,
I hope you all understand!

And if you're cooking for two
You can feed one more
And if you're cooking for three
There's enough for four
If you've got a room
Then you have got a floor
Oh the more you give, the more you live
If we all share, we'll all have more

Building A Bridge (Maria Mango)

We are building a bridge
Building a bridge
Building a bridge
Between heaven and earth

We are building a bridge
Building a bridge
Building a bridge
Between death and rebirth

We are building a bridge
Building a bridge
Building a bridge
Between happiness and hurt

We are building a bridge
Building a bridge
Building a bridge
Between wanting and worth

We are building a bridge
Building a bridge
Building a bridge
Between last and first

We are building a bridge
Building a bridge
Building a bridge
Between heaven and earth
